This apartment in Poznań’s Jeżyce district is a striking example of industrial-meets-contemporary elegance. Cool, raw materials are thoughtfully juxtaposed with soft, refined details, all while maintaining an understated yet inviting atmosphere, offering a masterclass in harmonizing contrasting elements, courtesy of local interior designers LBWA Studio. Situated in a modern development amidst the area’s historic tenements, the apartment’s design mirrors Jeżyce’s own blend of old-world charm and gritty, hip vibrancy—as the district is famous for its stunning Art Nouveau architecture as well as a growing number of trendy cafés, boutiques, and restaurants.

At the heart of the design is a palette of industrial materials, namely exposed concrete ceilings and flooring, and stainless steel and natural stone furnishings. These foundational elements give the apartment a raw, urban feel, while the use of warm, light birch wood, which flows seamlessly throughout, softly tempers the scheme’s starkness. This blend of hard and soft, cold and warm, is central to the apartment’s charm—industrial without being cold, contemporary without losing warmth.

The entrance hall sets the tone with a boxy wooden structure that separates the open-plan living area from the more intimate private quarters. Stepping into the former, the space opens up, bathed in natural light filtered through linen curtains that lend a soft touch to the austere, minimalist interior. An oak dining table, paired with vintage chairs by Giancarlo Piretti, becomes the apartment’s central gathering point, bridging the space between the sitting area and the kitchen.

One of the design’s standout features, the kitchen cleverly balances functionality with aesthetic appeal with tall cabinetry finished in light birch wood complementing low, brushed stainless steel cabinets. A sleek stainless-steel shelf adds a linear accent, while the natural green stone countertop injects an organic texture that contrasts with the design’s minimalist lines. In the sitting area, a boxy coffee table, custom-designed by LBWA, picks up the countertop’s hue and texture, while the soft, flowing lines and tactile warmth of the plush Togo sofa provides a soothing contrast to the room’s harder elements.

The use of light birch wood carries on through the hallway to the private quarters—the bedroom and home office. Separated by a wooden wall, the two spaces can be connected or closed off as needed thanks to hidden sliding doors. Inset with ribbed glass to allow light to filter through, these doors ensure that the sense of flow is both physical and visual.

The apartment’s bathroom maintains the scheme’s design language within a space where stainless steel, natural stone, and birch wood come together combining that is both a sleek and inviting environment. As a finishing touch, a large mirror enhances the room’s simplicity while also maximizing light, giving it a more expansive feel.

In what is evidently a sophisticated interplay of contrasts, LBWA’s design for this apartment succinctly reflects the studio’s acumen for crafting spaces that feel simultaneously modern, comfortable, and deeply connected to their urban surroundings.
