Born in Athens in 1978, Despina Pavlaki studied Communication and Mass Media in Athens and Documentary Filmmaking in Barcelona. Despina learned little at school and lots on the job. She worked as a film critic and festival programmer for 10 years before tackling more varied writing projects, including her very first children’s book, endless amounts of creative non-fiction and the wonderful world of scriptwriting.She currently divides her time between documentary production, film festival work and wordsmithery and considers herself lucky that she’s never had a real office job. Her goal in life is to be a geography-defying multimedia nomad, although she keeps coming back to Greece time and time again. She blames her dog. To quote a stolen David Lynch motto: “Traveling is not just about going to far-off destinations but creating destinations within yourself”. Note to self: must try transcendental meditation.
