Location: Kita-ku, Tokyo Architect: Yasuhiro Yamashita (Atelier Tekuto Co. Ltd.) Design year: 2007 Construction year: 2008 Client: Family (5 people). Father is a professional musician. Constructed Area: 46.30m2
The site is located in a corner of a crowded residential area one street away from the market street. At the request of the client and owner, who is a professional musician, architect Yasuhiro Yamashita, founder of atelier Tecuto, with his team designed a house in which it's owner could play his piano at any time of day whenever he wants, and spend time with his family as well. Tecuto team has been commissioned to create music rooms several times before, but this time they teamed up with a soundproofing professional to ensure a high level of sound insulation.
To circumvent setback regulations that control the daylight conditions on the street as well as to maximize floor area on the third storey, they made use of the sky factor. This resulted in a building with a uniquely defined shape whose polyhedron ceilings also provided for high ceilings and expansive space on the second floor. More textured materials were carefully selected, especially for the family area, in order to provide a comfortable environment for this family of 5 to spend quality time together.
Let the rhythm of the house travel you through the wonderful photos of photographer Toshihiro Sobajima.
