Founded by Elliott Housiaux and Paul-Emile De Smedt a few years ago, Erased Studio operates at the intersection of architecture, interior design, scenography, and art direction—a versatile approach that shines through in their recent project, BATCH. This new café, restaurant, and bar in Ixelles, a vibrant and multicultural district of Brussels, evokes the timeless charm of traditional Belgian brasseries while feeling distinctly contemporary, thanks to the studio's highly aesthetic vision.

Ensuring a seamless transition from a bright, open café by day to an intimate restaurant by night, BATCH unfolds as a series of spaces offering various atmospheres. Whether enjoying a lively conversation in the bustling bar, relaxing on the cosy pavement terrace, or savouring a meal in the intimate dining room, guests are invited to move freely and discover each uniquely designed area, each with its own distinct mood and character.

The studio embraced simplicity and functionality over ornamentation, opting instead for a combination of classic, minimal, and industrial elements to imbue the space with understated elegance. Clean lines and grid patterns echo thoughtfully throughout the space, from the glass brick partition that separates the street-facing, light-filled bar from the main dining area, to the acoustic ceiling, and the shelving unit in the smaller dining room. These elements form part of a series of custom-made metal furnishings that the studio developed specifically for the project, also including a slender dining table, double-sided wash basins, and a linear lamp fitted with acrylic diffusers suspended above the bar counter. High-performance materials blending tradition with modernity, such as lacquered wood, stainless steel, and patinated aluminium, give BATCH a humble yet seductive character, resulting in a space that captures both warmth and sophistication.

Beyond interior design and custom furnishings, Erased Studio's vision extended to collaborating with graphic designer Lisbeth Antoine to establish a cohesive visual identity. This partnership ensured that the café's aesthetic mirrors the unique character of the building, creating an experience where every detail feels meticulously curated, inviting patrons to enjoy not just a meal, but an atmosphere carefully crafted to engage and delight all the senses.
