OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) was founded in 1975 by Rem Koolhaas along with Elia and Zoë Zenghelis and Madelon Vriensendorp. Today OMA is led by nine partners: Rem Koolhaas, Ellen van Loon, Reinier de Graaf, Shohei Shigematsu, Iyad Alsaka, David Gianotten, Chris van Duijn, Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli and Jason Long. 

OMA is a world leader in architecture, urbanism and cultural analysis. Meanwhile, AMO, its research and design studio, specializes in areas that exhibit an increasing influence over architecture, including: media, politics, technology, publishing, renewable energy and fashion. OMA and AMO often work parallel with each other; such is the case with fashion label, Prada who utilized OMA’s skills and AMO’s research for their epicenter stores in New York and Los Angeles. OMA and Prada enjoy a prolific long term collaboration the culmination of which can be seen in the recently inaugurated, Fondazione Prada in Milan (2015). 

Some other of OMA’s remarkable completed projects includes the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow (2015); the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing (2012); and the Milstein Hall at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York (2011). Meanwhile, in 2004 AMO was commissioned for the design of a colored “barcode” flag for the European Union—in which it combined the flags of all member states—as well as having produced exhibitions for the Venice Architectural Biennale and the 720-page book of the Metabolism architecture movement (Taschen, 2010) among other notable projects.
