Fresh, creative, and inspiring, is the work of Groupa Design Studio who is taking part in the "Rafsoda" exhibition that will take place in ''Designer’s Days'' in Paris during June 15 – 20, 2011. The studio is exhibiting seven of the ten products that are part of ‘Piece per Week,’ which are also on sale.
The Piece per Week project was a ten-week marathon where the group stumbled among fresh ideas, experimentation, rummaging through drawers, sketches, materials, recyclable items, shapes, planning, executing, shooting, pricing and finally… every finished object was published every Tuesday on their Facebook fan page. While nearly most creative studios spend endless days and nights, sometimes even months in perfecting just one piece, Groupa Studio emerged from this 10-week marathon of fresh ideas.
The designs of ‘Piece per Week’ clearly exhibit how the studio has experimented with materials, and already existing objects, which have been altered to create these superb designs. 'Piece per Week' is a project which includes playful design in lighting, storage, seating, tables and an epoxy cake.
The objects which will be presented at Rafsoda are: Book Lamp, Hugs & Kisses, Hold On, Goldilocks, Oliver, Camel light, and last but not least Piece of Cake! Book Lamp is an iconic and minimalist hanging metal rod lamp for a book; its dual function makes it attractive and playful. Hugs & Kisses is a pair of chests embracing drawers which give off a feeling of a warm and close hug. Hold On is literally a bench where the geometrically black metal frames hold on to the white bench and chair which is made out of frames and pallets. Goldilocks, the traditional wooden embroidery hoop turns the uncompleted embroidery into an inseparable part of the stool. Oliver, are four abandoned chair bases which now have a warm wooden roof over their heads. Camel Light is a bookstand and a light; its design is reminiscent of a camel! And last but not least Piece Of Cake is a decorative layer cake, made out of different types of wood and epoxy topping. Hint – hint! Do these designers wish to tell us something? Maybe, the 10-week marathon with the ten design pieces was a ‘piece of cake’ for them after all!
We can't wait to see what else they can come up with; although this time we assume that they'll give themselves longer than a week!
