Kabiljo Inc.'s PRETTYPRETTY collection – pretty heads to sit on – puts a smile on our face with its erotic wink and its humorous touch.
Dejana Kabiljo the face behind Kabiljo Inc, has an impressive curriculum. She currently lives in Vienna but her story starts in Split, Croatia where she was born and bred. After graduating in architecture from the University of Belgrade and receiving a Master Degree in design from the Domus Academy in Milan, she took up a post as Art Director of the Vienna Museum of Technology back in '95. Two years later, she started her own professional practice for design and architecture and was lecturer at the University of applied Arts in Vienna. She has been a lecturer at the MAK Vienna and more recently she was a guest lecturer at Konsfack Stockholm . In '98 Dejana received a Japan Foundation Fellowship for artists and spent an extended Summer in Tokyo. In '01 she launched her own design brand Kabiljo Inc. and had the chance to showcase her first collection in exhibitions at the MAK in Vienna.
Kabiljo has been creating ever since and had personal exhibitions all over the world, amongst others Paul Smith in Tokyo, Selfridges in London and most noteworthy at Zona Tortona in Milan '08 and '09. She also exhibited at curated shows in Europe, the U.S. and in Tokyo.
The humorous PRETTYPRETTY collection consists of hairy bar stools, poufs and chairs. As Kabiljo puts it : “Pretty heads to sit on explore the nicely regulated erotic allure that surrounds us, tracing out the customary grammar of desire. The Kabiljo Inc. products search for the innovation on the level of human behaviour. Consequently, materials are carefully researched and subdued to series of experimental processes until they fit into place. Simple things are created for our complex times, nice, iron-free and celebratory.”
Kabiljo's PRETTYPRETTY barstools were recently chosen by Philippe Starck for the interior of the upmarket SLS hotel in Beverly Hills. 'These beauties, angelic and gracious, radiating self assurance' will certainly turn heads!
