Back in 2009, a group of friends living and working in Berlin decided to create their very own online platform. Originally conceived as an ‘on the side’ project outside of the realms of their normal jobs, Freunde von Freunden is now a well-known online interview magazine that likes to ‘take a peek’ into the homes of its interviewees in its search for authenticity and unpretentious urban-life realness. Inspired by the raw and unpolished aesthetic seen in magazines like The Selby (online) and Apartamento, the team behind FvF set out to document the private homes and working places of the most creative and inspiring people they knew, starting of course from their own friends, a rule which has never wavered as only friends of friends can be interviewed and their apartments photographed (hence the German name Freunde von Freunden or Friends of Friends in English). Two years later, in 2011, FvF teamed up with Distanz Verlag, the publishing house of art collector Christian Boros and Uta Grosenick, in order to publish their very first book which was given the subtitle ‘BERLIN’ and featured some of the website’s best homes from the German capital. Now, a much anticipated new book is finally being released, containing a selection of homes and studios presented on FvF over the past two years, this time not only from Berlin but also from ‘friends’ all around the world.
