Just Married: How To Celebrate Your Wedding In Style

Words by Tina Komninou

A marriage and a wedding are two completely different things. A wedding only happens once between two people and can last from minutes to hours, and upon its completion, can you then ride into the sunset or sunrise, out into the world of JUST MARRIED.

These few minutes or hours are what nearly half of the world dreams about, spending hours thinking about the spectacularity of it all. This may be because there is the promise of a Happily Ever After, or it may also be because it is all about YOU. For some, a wedding is a day about pretending that you are someone you dream of being, for others it’s about celebrating WHO you are. We call them the brave ones. The ones that break the barriers of conventionality and plan this day for all to see exactly who they are. No masks, no pretensions, no barriers. Just the world of the perfection of two people in love.

These are the weddings that Fiona Leahy has gathered and wanted to share with us. Through her book launch ‘Just Married’, published by GestaltenFiona Leahy the stylist, designer, and celebrity wedding & event/party planner, invites us into her world of wedding bliss. She creates ceremonies that are outside the box, where the celebration is about two people’s awkwardness that makes them unique and the exceptionality of the word different. Leahy, who began her career as a fashion stylist working along Jade Jagger, and art directing at Garrard, the British Crown Jewelers, is the person to know if you want a wedding that’s out of the ordinary. One of her most talked about projects is still her very first, which is none other then the unity of Dita Von Teese and Marilyn Manson.

Today she looks back at those ‘one-of-a-kind’ ceremonies, which have all had a twist to them making them truly both unique & real. ‘Just Married’ is a book dedicated to the celebration of finding your other half, someone who completes you in all that you truly are. It’s about celebrating your love for the hay ranch outdoors, your fascination about death, your fixation on tattoos, your appreciation of all things vintage, your simplistic ways, your cravings for beans and burgers, your wild circus-like nature, your adoration of goth and most of all, the greatness of just being you.

Yes… if you want a wedding that is anything but ordinary or cliché, Fiona Leahy is the woman to know who can give you just that. You can celebrate it any way you wish, no holds barred. As the author says herself, one of the weddings she herself found amazing was the ceremony between a Greek Orthodox Woman and a Jewish man where they took the best out of both worlds. Breaking plates and chair dancing. Now that’s a wedding that everyone wants to be invited to.
