PINPOINT is photographer Yannis Bournias’ brainchild with the contribution of the makeup artist Yannis Siskoswhich lately was hosted in the summer edition of L’Officiel Hommes, Germany. With its combined theme of the artistic with still-life photography, it transfers us to times gone by of warriors, battles and Trojan inspirations.
There is nothing better than a shoot that achieves the transference of its mood to the onlooker. PINPOINT is comprised of a series of single-man shots juxtaposed with still-life shots of profound men’s products, qualities and virtues of both are exchanged between the two. The nudity of the well-formed body, the message prevailing in a high-quality product, the metal pins layered on different parts of the body as isolated pieces of a suit of armor, symbolize the strength, danger and savage beauty of manhood.
According to the photographer, inspirations for the particular theme included a range of topics, pictures and objects making up a mood board of armor parts, masks, archegonia symbols and scenes from Trojan battles and crusades. The excellent result achieved by the talented make-up artist Yannis Siskos, backed up the inspired theme managing to convey the exact atmosphere of the photo shoot. Of course, the models, Pavel Dobrovolsky, Spyros, Gavin Dune and Panagiotis Mitsakos’ contributions, did not go amiss. Regarding the still-life component of the concept, Fabrice Fouillet took the photos whereas Juergen Zipf oversaw the shoot’s creative direction.

History is a source of inspirations. It is up to the artist to tap into these concepts and present them to the onlooker in a manner that is contemporary, touching and understandable. Yannis Bournias has certainly achieved this, making the German S/S11 L’Officiel Hommes a keeper for our magazines collection.
