Emma Elizabeth Coffey lives and breathers by her self-created ethos, as she turns heads with her interior designing and styling prowess. The montage of art, design, fashion and innovation is what appeals most to Emma Elizabeth. This powerful fusion is what inspires her lifestyle interior design and creations. Drawing from years of travel and study abroad, Emma's work is heavily European influenced, yet her artistic cultural reach extends as far as the likes of her favorite artist, Tokyo based Yayoi Kusama. Her uncomplicated yet uncompromising in form designs were featured at Zona Tortona during Milan Design Week 2006. Emma Elizabeth Designs were on show alongside the likes of Swarovski, Tom Dixon, Casa Armani and many other leading international names. However, the defining moment in Emma's trajectory, thus far, was when the Philippe Starck Network requested to view her work --The penultimate validation of her design and styling prowess-- an overwhelming accolade.
In less than a year of our last presentation on Emma Elizabeth Designs regarding her “CHIUSO” collectionEmma Elizabeth introduces a new collection entitled “sliZed.” Like in her last collection, Emma Elizabeth prefers to create furniture/object concepts/collections and not just single pieces. This allows her to push and mould a strong concept into a series of executions.
Sitting one evening at her usual Japanese dining spot, while making idle chit chat with the sushi chef they came across a topic: the technique of slicing and how it is a form of art. With a thirst for learning and not for sake, Emma Elizabeth began researching sliced elements and visual cues in the urban and fashion environment, from zebra crossings, digital numbers to YSL latest "IT" heel. Having become obsessed with lines, and segments and the re-occurring black and white, white and black configuration. Black and white, white and black using a natural medium "wood" became the best use of hue and material to show visually the “sliZed” lines // forms // concept in an organic manner. Yet because all the pieces are individual each product/piece has the possibility to be custom colored: for example Magenta “sliZed” lines with royal blue sections, the choice and imagination is completely up to the owner of “sliZed.”
The concept “sliZed” is rare within "newness", while wanting to create pieces that were unique and exclusive; Emma Elizabeth wanted to engage the viewer, creating a visual illusion. Both the concept and the devise of a collection Emma Elizabeth feels doubly push the boundaries and leave exciting opportunities of placement. She would love to see someone order the console yet have it custom made to run the entirety of a hallway, the possibilities and endeavors for the “sliZed” collection are endless!
