The Masterstudio Design, as part of the Academy of Art and Design Basel, defines itself as a room for experiments, discourse and production for designers of all design disciplines, as well as for cultural scientists. 'Everybody Is' - Masterstudio's show in Milan's Zona Tortona – was developed around the metaphor of the human organism.
The analogy to the human body and its inner organs has been chosen to serve as a metaphor to describe best what we do in the Masterstudio Design: Although every organ is unique in its size, shape and function, the human body only works through their interaction. Therefore organs also work in an interdisciplinary matter – like the students coming from different design backgrounds in the Masterstudio Design.
What does the human body have in common with the Masterstudio Design? The analogy to the human body and its inner organs has been chosen to serve as a metaphor to describe best what we do in the Masterstudio Design: although every organ is unique in its size, shape and function, the human body only works through their interaction. Therefore organs also work in an interdisciplinary matter – like the students coming from different design backgrounds in the Masterstudio Design. In this sense the Masterstudio Design is the body that makes this interdisciplinary discourse possible. This gives each student the chance to discover new skills, explore uncharted territories and experience new starting points – in other words to be a heart, a kidney, a lung, a stomach, a liver or an intestine within the context of the Masterstudio Design.
The result of this interdisciplinary endeavour is dark and brooding, a stunning display with a distinct character. Go and see it for yourself in Milan's Zona Tortona at Via Savona 18 from April the 14th - 19th 2010 or check out the 'Everybody Is' blog.
