A large religious-like symbol, drawn in a five-color palette, stood out on the invitation of Dimitris Petrou’s Winter FW11-12 fashion show. Below, the word DOGMA was written in big, narrow ‘arials’ conveying a dark, almost mystical feeling that urged our curiosity into what this collection was about. When the day of the event arrived, our interest and high expectations were fulfilled - to the greatest extent - with a fantastic show that competed with international standards in luxury fashion.
The event was held at Virsodepsio Theatre in the Votanikos area of Athens - an abandoned old tannery turned into an urban theatre that has still preserved its original industrial atmosphere. A long and narrow hallway decked on its sides with ecclesiastic candelabras, led the guests from the entrance to the rectangular seating plan. The ambiance was dark and numinous conveying images of secret rituals and rites.
Dimitris’ exquisite concept creations are always backed up by sophisticated design and refined materials. As for almost all his collections, the designer played once again with black as a color block in a palette of muted shades of eggplant, puce, beige and tiffany blue, in monochromatic looks for both men and women’s wear. Carefully constructed pieces, blazers, pleats and lady-like shift dresses were followed by a synthesis of nightgowns featuring sequins and details that amplified the unique character of Dimitris Petrou’s creations. The concept pieces of the collection were the black-lace total looks featuring footwear creations in the same fabric and technique, made by the emerging shoe designer de.bour.
A hip candle lit party followed the end of show where the Athenian fashion clique had the opportunity to toast their BOMBAY SAPPHIRE gin-filled glasses, to the designers’ collection success, whispering their anticipation for Dimitris Petrou’s next fashion fête.
