Maison Martin Margielahas come to be known for its definitive deconstruction and transformation techniques, where volumes are reinvented, shapes are modified and garments’ original use and movement is playfully turned on its head. Offering a new interpretation of their vision, the collection of the collaboration between Maison Martin Margiela and H&M consists of 're-editions' from the archives of the fashion house’s rich history spanning 24 years.
On the weekend before the collection hits stores around the world, some of you may have witnessed hundreds of black-clad fashion soldiers donning white aprons marching through your neighborhood. From Hong Kong to Singapore and Paris to Düsseldorf, eight countries around the globe hosted similar marches over the last weekend in anticipation of the collection’s global launch on Thursday 15 November 2012. San Francisco which was picked as the only US city to house the demonstration watched as the solemn fashion soldiers took to the streets.
In recent times, where we have become so used to demonstrations around the world demanding for peoples’ rights, the Margiela ‘protestors’ instead peacefully walked the streets with their banners in support of Margiela and H&M. Follow the silent Manifesto and support the H&M demonstrations on facebook whilst preparing yourselves to get in line at over 230 stores worldwide to discover over 70 garments and accessories from the most avant garde collaboration.
>The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all. < MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
