With Christmas just around the corner, Yatzer is here to remind you that you should still believe in Wonder(s)! Georgina Jeffries and Pip McCully show us their transformation of a Victorian Era house into an extraordinary, minimal creation in Prahran, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The two Australian designers initially founded WONDER in September of 2009 with a shared vision of offering design solutions and inspiring people around them. Their long experience in several different fields of design and architecture enabled them to create their own personal style and aim - not just at following trends, but deeply comprehending their clients' needs and creating tailor made solutions. It is their passion for sophisticated design combined with the residence owners’ love of art and entertaining their friends and themselves, which set the foundation for experimenting through light and space. With the brief of creating a relaxing experience resembling the feeling of an art gallery, the designers embraced this project with an inherent sense of quality and an eagerness to differentiate.

For the residence’s interior design, two parallel guidelines were followed, as the Wonder-ful duet disrupted the insular nature of the existing Victorian sized rooms by merging living areas and framing the exteriors with key views. Due to the fact that the building’s façade facade faces east, the WONDER girls managed to benefit from the natural daylight and the smooth afternoon light diffusion. The emergence of bright, clean lines in the residence therefore comes down to Georgina Jeffries and Pip McCully artfully incorporating new skylights and large windows into the existing perimeters.
The kitchen and living room look out over the residence’s dazzling garden, to which both have direct access, while in order to create a sense of calmness in additional areas, a courtyard oasis was added between the bathroom and the study, offering a tranquil and calming view. To highlight the exposed aggregated concrete floor, a minimal palette of white paint mixed with powder coat was applied, as well as white joinery clad with strongly figured Bianco Giao stone.
