British artist, Liz West, received her Foundation Diploma in Art & Design from Leeds College of Art in 2004. In 2007 she received her BA (Hons) in Fine Art Sculpture & Environmental Art from Scotland’s, Glasgow School of Art. Her unique work creates environments which fuse light and color, creating interplay between the two. It largely focuses on the exploration of, “how sensory phenomena can invoke psychological and physical responses that tap into our own deeply entrenched relationships to color,” as she states in her personal site.

She has received a number of awards and prizes such as the Art Council England, Grant for the Arts Award in 2012, 2013 and 2016, as well as being shortlisted for the Light Art Project of the Year, Lighting Design Awards in 2016.

She has completed a number of private commissions as well as held Solo Exhibitions of her work, such as the Zenith Blue + Primary Red at ARCADECARDIFF in Cardiff, UK in 2015. Her most recent exhibition, Our Colour Reflection, is on show from May 14 – June 25, 2016 at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthrope, UK. For this installation, Liz has placed hundreds of colored mirrors on the floor of the former St. John’s Church building which reflect the gallery lighting as well as their colors onto the ceiling and throughout the historic interior of the space.
