Ecstasy by Attico Design Studio Inspired By The Catholic Eucharistic Host

Padiglione Italia invited 17 designers to explore the limits around food in an attempt to capture what this fundamental ingredient of our existence means to each of them. Highly primitive as a need and thus valuable at the same time, the concept of food was the starting point given to the designers who explored the different ways it affects our lives thereby translating the concept into tangible ideas. As a result, this process gave birth to a collective exhibition where the exclusive projects that have been executed ad hoc will be presented at the Ventura Lambrate district during the upcoming Milan Design Week 2013.

Cristina Celestino’s project stood out in this collection. Its name ''ECSTASY'' resonates the esoteric atmosphere of aCatholic Mass ritual where the dressing table with a basin and a pitcher stands for a profoundly symbolic combination of objects. The circular form of the Eucharistic host, a symbol of the holy body, is repeated on the surfaces which in combination with the pitcher, representing a modern chalice, enhances this game of semiotics.

Celestino, founder of the Milan based ATTICO Design Studio, loves to experiment with the scale and the meaning of objects which resonates loud and clear in her last project, where the usually romantic dressing table becomes a modern altar in front of which a hedonistic sacrament takes place.
