Nearly, half a century of work where Fisher-Friedman Associates has provided a consistent level of excellence and livability. Having established an award winning reputation in the field of architectural design and planning, this firm has designed over 10 million square feet of office space and executed urban design and land planning projects totaling over 25,000 acres. Furthermore, 250,000 units of housing have designed or built by the firm throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
Fisher-Friedman Associates have designed spaces with an extraordinary exercise of intelligence, of relentless determination, of crafty pragmatism, that has allowed them to shape with elegance and care more large pieces of the world than most architects would ever touch in six life times! And they aren’t finished yet!
They have managed to make residential design affordable and elegant, but it can also be sensuous, appealing, and timely. In Praise of Pragmatism explores the works of Fisher-Friedman Associates from1964 to 2010 through 214 pages which include color photographs and illustrations. It explores one of the Bay Area's leading architectural firms, from its beginnings in residential architecture through its expansion into academic buildings, student housing, office developments, civic facilities, and large-scale urban planning. Throughout this process the book outlines the nearly 50-year career of Rodney Friedman, who continues to produce a vigorous body of work at age 75.
