Situated underneath an old railway line close to where the pre-war majestic central station of Rotterdam once stood, this espresso-bar is enticing and truly beautifully detailed. Its design is a revival of the classical canteen atmosphere paying tribute to its surroundings and what once stood there so many years ago.  The space which consists of a simple concept with immaculate detailing made out of high quality precious warm materials such as pinewood and brass which when merged together create an essence of lightness and pricelessness. How the brass is immaculately designed around the wood and glass makes you understand that it is about the way it has been incorporated and not just the material itself. The delicate connections and 90 degree angle turn overs further excite anyone with an eye for high end detailing.

Looking at the paneled wall with the irregular pine wood veining, the brass frame and the simplistic symmetrical wall light fixtures are enough to make you appreciate where you are. Tribute has certainly been paid in the grandest but yet most humble way. Of course in order to give LOKAAL  its complete finalized character, the designers designed its brand identity of as well. Needless to say that the outcome has the exact same state of mind as the interior. Simple graphics, framed with clarity and gold pricelessness. A continuity that we love to appreciate in any project.

This simplistic majestic character design is exactly what coffee itself symbolises, hence the continuity is from start to finish. As with the detailing of the espresso-bar, a coffee bean is all about the distinctive essence of its taste and its precious aroma.  When it comes to ‘WEAPONOFCHOICE’, you can say with all certainty that nothing is left to chance.
