Design in all its forms is forever changing, day by day, and sometimes you might feel that there is no trend, but there is always good design.  The characteristics of ‘movement, tension, balance, and surprise are being increasingly explored in today’s visual culture.’  Cutting edge design, striking art or awe inspiring photography have more to tell other than what we see.  They are not just images; for upon closer observation, they ‘put us in the picture’ of a whole new world unveiling a story right before our eyes.  Each of us understands this story differently; the image, the art, or the object, generates a story in the viewer’s mind, a story which is very different from one viewer to another as each of us has had different experiences, and a different past.  The story elucidated in the viewer’s mind explores the inevitable events that will develop out of the portrayed circumstances.

'Erratic' is a book which documents up to date narrative qualities inherent in single images.  The images portrayed are often artistic, playful creative investigations that reveal a range of narrative qualities.   Concurrently, the work featured in “Erratic” makes it profoundly clear that even conditions of alleged stability or balance can come to an abrupt end at any time.  The images that have been compiled have been carefully selected from designers, photographers, and artists who are ‘exploring the reciprocal effects between stability and instability, symmetry and asymmetry, and pressure and counter-pressure.’   The documented images within “Erratic” suggest a form of stability, and strength as they appear to be balanced, symmetrical and harmonious.  As you can understand the constant variable can act as the Δ (delta) variable at any given time – and what is perceived as stable and constant can be a change.  ‘Change is one of the few constants in the world.’

That is what 'Erratic' is all about; a well-written book with stunning large colorful images and excellent up-to-date examples on Graphic Design and the Arts. 'Erratic' is a visual impact in current design which introduces change, movement, tension, balance and surprise in visual language.  It is an exceptional 192-page book in full color with a soft cover edited by R. Klanten and F. Schulze.  So even if you’re not one of the lucky winners, it’s definitely a book worth checking out and having in your library collection!
