FIRMSHIP FS42: A Floating Work of Art by Studio Job
Words by Yatzer
Location
The creatives at Studio Job in Belgium, whose work we’ve previously admired on Yatzer, have customized the interior of the Firmship 42, a private boat dressed in shades of white and gray, teak, Corian, and marine-inspired iconography. The Firmship 42 can best be described as a floating work of art, introducing a new nautical tradition—or so we hope! This classic vessel, with its modern design, beautifully balances contemporary creativity with traditional form, all while maintaining the functionality expected in today’s boats.
Radiating sophistication, the Firmship 42 features outstanding gray detailing, from the railings and bollards to the sundeck and even the throttle. Its bold and streamlined exterior was designed by nautical architect Willem Nieland, creating a striking contrast with Studio Job’s refined and imaginative interior. The interior incorporates delicate nautical symbols from the past, reinterpreted with an unexpected twist. Anchors, Moby Dick references, and skull-and-crossbones motifs adorn the upholstery and even the stained-glass window that separates the cabin from the pilot house.

Despite its modern aesthetic, the Firmship 42 preserves the traditional craftsmanship that reinforces its timeless design. Teak is used throughout the doors, outdoor furniture, and interior finishes. Inside the cabin, the wood has been treated to showcase the grain of each plank impeccably, blending tradition with modern elegance. Even the captain’s seat has been specially designed for this vessel, ensuring both style and comfort. The overall atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and convivial, exuding luxury and refinement.
Currently, the Firmship 42 is available as a 42-foot boat. Rumor has it that it was initially commissioned by Casper Vissers, founder of Moooi, for his family’s personal use. However, plans are now underway to collaborate on a 60-foot version under the same brand.
Whether it’s 42 or 60 feet, the Firmship 42 is a vessel that embodies maritime tradition while offering the enduring elegance and allure of a floating masterpiece.
