This year British Design Company, TOM DIXON undertook a series of activities surrounding 100% Design and the London Design Festival. As Creative Director for the second year running of 100%, Tom Dixon exhibited at the show launching the new 2008 collection “A Bit of Rough.” Tom Dixon and George Smith also launched a new upholstery collection at ‘The Factory’ transforming a Knightsbridge ballroom into an upholstery factory creating a new collection on site.
The Factory Originally the home of eminent painter Sir John Lavery, this regency building provides a fitting backdrop for the experimental fusing of cutting edge contemporary design with centuries old traditional craft skills. The event proved that British manufacturing and innovation are still alive and kicking as well as showing off a collaboration of two industry stalwarts that has already received international acclaim. The Factory launched a new collection alongside showing the iconic Wingback chair in various stages of production. Skilled craftsmen demonstrated traditional upholstery techniques using some traditional upholstery materials such as boar bristle, horsehair, steel springs, padding and muslin. Tom’s new book ‘The Interior World of Tom Dixon.’ was launched also at The Factory.
