Brand new and completely out of the ordinary, this new pizza restaurant and cocktail bar on Milan’s Via Solferino opened its doors last month. Its founders, the team of chefs, food connoisseurs and designers called food.different, are also responsible for the popular Pisacco restaurant, which is also in Milan. Following the motto ‘don’t repeat yourself’, also known as ‘the dry principle’ in software programming, the founders of ‘Dry Cocktail & Pizza’ did not want to simply repeat the success of Pisacco, but create an altogether new project whilst retaining the high standards of quality that Pisacco has come to be so famous for. Everything in this new restaurant is ‘dry’, that is, stripped of all embellishment with the intention of exposing the quintessence of quality. This philosophy is also reflected in the interior design, for which the Italian design studio Vudafieri Saverino Partners is responsible: the walls have been scraped to reveal layers of paint and materials, while equipment and cables are visible throughout the space. Rough and industrial-inspired furniture has been used, mostly by Italian design firm Discipline. Apart from the unconventional combination of pizza and cocktails, Dry attempts another unusual proposal: instead of art on the walls, the venue will be featuring only video art projections, with a programme curated by a dedicated art director.
