A concept is a must now-a-days when you have to design. The design seems more appealing and characteristics of the concept are portrayed within it, thus making it unique. Such is the case with “Neurone;” the idea originated from the neuron “an electrically excitable cell that processes and transmits information by electrical and chemical signaling; neurons connect to each other to form networks.”
Neurone is a light installation for the Grammont Library, in Rouen – FRANCE (architect Rudy Ricciotti). Neurone is a “network” of lights resembling the architecture of neuron systems. The fluorescent lights with aluminum finishes are connected to each other by the aluminum tip. The fluorescent lights connect at different levels and the nodes are connected with links thus forming this neuron network. Together the lights create a glowing atmosphere and can be altered to create any network. The lights can create any combination of ‘neurons’ as the lights are interlocked through a clipping. Therefore, the interchangeable lights can form various lighting configurations and designs in accordance with any given space.
Like a massive cobweb “Neurone” extends its network throughout the contemporary interior of Grammont Library. Along with the lighting, all the furniture in this library has been designed by TrustInDesign. The furniture as well as the lighting has been treated in a large scale due to the double height of the building; TrustInDesign aimed at creating a coherent interior with the building’s structure. Overall, this thoughtfully designed “Neurone” Lighting System seems to be the ideal solution for any library or exhibition space which aims in creating an interesting setting through the use of lights extending and thus creating a neuron/network.
