A House of Boundaries Broken: The Delfin & Postigo Residence in Madrid

Words by Tina Komninou

Madrid, Spain

As 2010 dawns, we wanted to begin the year with a residence that embodies a distinct and captivating identity—both in design and aesthetic sensibility. A home that encapsulates essence and symbolism, provoking thought and conversation. True to Yatzer’s commitment to excellence, our search led us to the stunning home of David Delfin and Gorka Postigo in Madrid. This residence is the epitome of our vision, making it the perfect inaugural residential feature for the year.

Sexy. Raw. Unapologetic. These words, and everything they evoke, define this Madrid home where Spanish fashion designer David Delfin and photographer Gorka Postigo reside. Together, this duo has created a space that epitomizes sensuality, elegance, and authenticity. Delfin, celebrated for his daring designs that accentuate the body and exude femininity and allure for his brand davidelfin, shares this home with Postigo, an architect-turned-photographer whose work delves into the interplay of nudity, emotion, and human existence. While some may find the house provocative or controversial, we see it as an honest and artistic expression of a lifestyle without inhibitions. It is a home that reflects the owners’ unapologetic embrace of their identities. Every element within the space—from the 1940s–1960s vintage furniture to the bold photographic artworks—tells a story of historical modernity intertwined with the raw tensions of contemporary life.

The residence is bathed in a palette of pure white floors and walls, exuding naiveté and purity while framing the powerful energy of its art collection. Works by Juergen Teller, Diane Arbus, Wolfgang Tillmans, Juan Gatti, and Gorka Postigo himself punctuate the space, harmonizing with the minimalist interiors. In the living room, simplicity reigns. The furniture, understated and refined, contrasts with a robust bench-like coffee table upholstered in leather, injecting a subtle kinkiness into the otherwise serene environment. These playful contradictions extend to the dining area, where leather-detailed chairs evoke an S&M aesthetic, daringly inviting imagination to the table. Lighting plays a starring role in the home’s design, balancing retro charm with sculptural artistry. Floor lamps become standalone works of art, while ceiling pendants dominate the mezzanine ceiling, casting a warm glow that unifies the space. Subtle 1960s-inspired details—such as the cabinet handles and console table compartments—further underscore the meticulous attention to detail.

Ascending to the mezzanine level reveals a design language of pure exposure. Here, there are no secrets, no taboos. A cupboard unit serves as a divider between the master bedroom and bathroom—minimal yet functional. The upper level’s unity is reinforced by custom-designed wooden elements made from adecul, a material treated to radiate strength and simplicity. The bathroom continues this narrative of raw minimalism, with stark white tiles and a gray walk-in shower. True to the home’s philosophy, what you see is what you get—an unfiltered, honest reflection of its owners.

In the bedroom, the design takes an unexpected turn. Dominating the space is a photograph that exudes emotional and visual impact, juxtaposed with a hanging rope—a haunting yet beautiful metaphor for pain, pleasure, and vulnerability. The monasterial wooden bed, set against a pristine white backdrop, adds to the room’s striking presence, embodying a fusion of sensuality and sentiment.

The home’s interiors pay homage to design legends like Jean Prouvé, Charles and Ray Eames, and Isamu Noguchi. These iconic pieces are thoughtfully placed to be fully appreciated, seamlessly integrated into the residence’s bold aesthetic. This house defies categorization. It is sexual, artistic, and honest—a space designed to challenge perspectives and inspire thought. To its owners, it reflects a way of life that is unapologetically authentic; to its visitors, it is an invitation to explore the boundaries of art, design, and personal expression.

The Delfin & Postigo residence is not just a home—it is a living, breathing statement of identity and artistry.
