Swedish carpet manufacturer BOLON has announced the launch of its new Silence collection with a fascinating video by Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman. Titled ‘The Contradiction of Silence’, the video tastefully combines the rhythms of BOLON’s carpet looms with the coordinated movements of the dancers, creating a poetic metaphor of ‘woven’ dance and ‘dancing’ machines. Both the set and costumes were created using only materials from the new Silence collection – even down to the dancers’ yellow nylon shoelaces! The collection’s grey soothing tones – inspired by Scandinavian nature and historical textiles – provide the perfect backdrop for Ekman’s choreography, which plays beautifully with light, form and flow. The film ends with a humorous image of the dancers ‘dressed up’ in awkward costumes as they occupy a pop-up living room, all made using the new BOLON carpets. The video which naturally made up part of BOLON’s showcase during Stockholm Design Week 2014, was created in collaboration with a talented team of Swedish set builders, costume designers, photographers, film makers and design students.

{YatzerTip}: Check out our presentation of BOLON’s amazing publication, which was released last year – it gives some great insights into the philosophy and work of Annica and Marie Eklund, the third generation of the family to own the business.

The new Silence collection by BOLON is inspired by Swedish nature, historical textiles and traditional wooden parquet techniques. BOLON’s signature flooring is woven with nylon and cotton, creating 3D textures which look different depending on the way the light falls on them. The result is a versatile collection that is subtle, light and warm, but still rich in colour with a silk-like appearance. ‘Silence’ is available in sheets, tiles and planks, and will soon be available with a 19dB sound-absorbing backing. The collection’s floorings are all 100% phthalate-free, marking a new era in environment-friendly BOLON products.
