The Oompa-Loompa and Charlie Bucket would definitely feel very much at home in ROCAMBOLESC - which was awarded the ''Best Bar in Europe'' prize in the 2013 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Located in GironaSpain, this lovely creamery incorporates the aesthetic fantasy of Tim Burton's film 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' where the Roald Dahlesque inspired fantasy-world is shaped through a design where playfulness prevails in the theatrically inspired setting.

Barcelona studio Sandra Tarruella interiors was called on by Jordi Roca, one of the owners of ROCAMBOLESC, to incorporate the traditional dessert trolley into the design of the creamery. The Roca brothers once used this trolley to stroll the streets of Girona selling petit-fours, until they were restricted by local regulations which led to the decision to open a creamery right in the center of Girona. Designed as a window into the cuisine of El Celler de Can Roca, ROCAMBOLESC invites the public to savour freshly churned ice creams made with the finest natural products.

Sandra Tarruella conceptualized the creamery’s magical and whimsical interior design scheme, all the while maintaining a modern character with peppermint candy motif pipelines constructed from PVC pipes and red tape fascinating visitors the moment they enter the creamery. Wells and taps, pouring the finest ice-cream (in six different flavors) are immediately reminiscent of the chocolate wells at Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. With up to 34 sensational toppings to add to the ice cream, even a taste palate as finely attuned as Willy Wonka’s is sure to be satisfied. Design firm Run was called upon to collaborate on the unique graphics for the interiors as well as the creamery’s packaging and corporate identity.

Without a doubt, this sweet anarchy has blown the minds of the judges for the 2013 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards; rarely do creameries receive such distinction and we’re convinced that it will definitely gain the appreciation of the public not only in terms of its unique design, but for the array of offerings and the whimsical experience itself. So ''if you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it; want to change the world... there's nothing to it.'' (Pure Imagination Lyrics / Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.)
