A charming city with an architectural spectrum from contemporary to colonial architecture, Valencia is the host of Valencia Disseny Week2010. The exhibition, "Uniendo Puntos, Diseño latinoamericano y Diseño español" is being held at the University of Valencia and represents the integration of the diverse identities. It explores, educates and promotes the different 'points' that makes them different although many share the same language and a historic union through colonization. The work is diverse and unfolds a sense of individuality, culturally and creatively. By placing these designers and artists together, the exhibition helps generate a discourse on the homogeneous ties of not only language and history but also courage, passion and will, all necessary traits to gage forward and create change.
Notable designers featured in the exhibition include collaborations like Surtido in Spain (Marc Morro), Nel Colectivo in Mexico (Hector Esrawe), and Touch (Zoe Melo).
The exhibition involves two activities:
-To create a platform that collects all works done by the invited collectives; this acts as a physical evidence and narrative of the active voice between the represented countries. -It acts as a round table of encounter and reflection, interaction, exchange, discussion and dialogue between professionals, specialists and students of design which promotes the discussion between different "points" of view.
The exhibition's curator is Valencian designer Luis Eslava and organized by the ADCV. Beautifully nestled in the center of the city and during a global presence at Valencia Disseny Week2010, the exhibition attracts viewers from all facets of the design industry. We hope this effort to integrate the Latin American and Spanish community of designers allows for a rich vocabulary of work that facilitates the learning and presence of this rich cultural community in the rest of the world. A great step towards the growth of a very talented voice in the design community.
