Yatzer proudly presents Italian Industrial Designer Paolo Cappello with his simple yet elegant designs.  After all, life is intended to be simple and maybe so is design, so why insist on making it more complicated?  30-year old designer Paolo Cappello, who has been distinguished by the many international awards and prizes despite the young of his age, presented eight new projects during Milan Salone Satellite 2011 for Italian furniture company Miniforms.

His simple and modest designs won the impressions of Miniforms, the company that ‘does what they like, and that’s the difference!’  With straightforward, yet thoughtful designs such as Avia, a wooden dining chair reminiscent of the classic restaurant chair, which was redesigned and reviewed in detail and proportion to make it ironic and perfect.  Avia is constructed of a beech wood structure, and finished in natural wood or painted white or black, while the seat and back are veneered plywood, finished in natural wood, white, yellow, green, red or black.

Of my favorite designs in this collection is Caio!  A steel tubular coat hanger, that serves the convenient function.  Its ever-so simple design which has been thoughtfully considered is what makes ciao a unique piece.  What is best about it is that the coats go on hangers leaving the coats untouched rather than being squished in a traditional coat hanger, of course all is a matter of space, and nonetheless the traditional coat hangers are convenient when limited space is provided.  The 30mm metal rod is tinted with powder-coated paint in white, yellow, red, green or black.

Caixa, on the other hand is a sideboard reminiscent of a 1960’s vintage side-board which has been redesigned to meet the needs of the 21st century.  Caixa is integrated with an iPod/TV high quality speaker system, you can connect your TV, computer, iPod and whatever else you put your mind to.  The exterior finish is lacquered in white, black red or black walnut, with a white, black or red interior finish.  Moreover, Torototela, is based on the same philosophy as Caixa with the integrated speaker system.  Torototela is a micro desk/ipod speaker system, with an oak wood structure and a red or white top which can e used as a small table.

On the other hand, Fil compliments Caio as per the material and the coherent form; Fil, is a side table constructed from the interweaving of two metal tubes of 18mm in diameter.  The uncomplicated design of  Fil leaves you with the impression that the coffee table was assembled just a second ago; very lovely, with a transparency due to the tempered glass top.  Fil  is available in white, yellow, red, green, and black and in two different dimensions.

Suggestive of the 1960s chrome and glass coffee-tables Mede, is designed in such a considerate manner to suggest an exceptional piece of furniture for 2011.  The coffee table with structure made of steel tube painted in black or white is available in two shapes, square and rectangular.  The top is tempered clear glass or transparent tinted glass, according to the structure color selected.

Les Brothers, suggestive of its name is a family of wall mirrors available in three different sizes, for the lover of simple, contemporary shapes who appreciates fine design which is enhanced by the curvy details.  Les Brothers is embellished with a fine wood detail, making the difference and not categorizing this mirror into the ‘just another mirror’ category.

Last, but not least is Otto – the table that won the 2011 Young & Design Award.  Otto is a table with a base in oiled beech heart, and a clear tempered glass top.  The net play of intertwining of the base and the floor with an irregular shape, make a table that reinterprets a classic of the living area.  Otto is available in three dimensions and is built with environmentally friendly policies and fully recyclable materials.

All in all, Paolo Cappello’s collection for Miniforms includes color, design, and a variation in materials between steel, wood and glass.  The play in the simple, yet elegant designs makes us consider once more that design is at its best when it is straightforward in form and in function.
