Two weeks ago, Yatzer was invited to the presentation of Dyson air multiplier in Athens * GR organized by its Greek dealer Vassilias and Out of the Box agency. What a better presentation of these amazing fans, as we’re heading firmly into the summer months;, Dyson has the answer for the very warm summer days and nights!  The Dyson Air Multiplier fans have the ultimate slender and chic design, while they are engineered without the typical propeller fan blades.

The Dyson Air Multiplier technology was first introduced in 2009, offering the first real innovation in more than 125 yearsDyson Air Multiplier is engineered for larger spaces, and provides floor standing machines with greater air flow.  The patented technology is here for good to replace fast spinning blades and clumsy, awkward grilles with loop amplifiers; and that’s what is great about them as they are the ultimate contemporary design object!  Moreover, Air Multiplier technology is a safer way for children and adults to keep cool during the hot summer!  Not to mention how hygienic this fan is, as it can easily be cleaned with a cloth.  Unlike conventional fans which are hard to clean and result in accumulating dust in the blades, the dust is then recycled and circulated in the air once the fan is once again turned on.

Air Multiplier technology works with the machine drawing air in at the base through a mixed flow impellor – a combination of the technologies used in turbochargers and jet engines.  Unlike conventional fans with limited settings, Dyson Air Multiplier fans can be infinitely adjusted up or down. The new tower and pedestal fans offer precise airflow and oscillation control and can be adjusted remotely.  All new fans come with a remote control making life even easier, which is magnetized to conveniently locate itself on the machine.  According to James Dyson, ‘the new machines are engineered to circulate smooth un-buffeted air in larger rooms; they draw in and multiply nearly 50% more air than the desk fan.’

The truth is that this fan is revolutionary, I always preferred fans over A/C’s as a more eco-friendly mean of cooling, but they were always rather unsatisfactory.  They are hard to clean; the blades interrupt the flow of air, although they do allow for those funny noises kids make when they talk through the fan!  And talking of kids, not to mention that kids always stick their fingers through the grilles, that is why Dyson seems to be the ideal fan design to date!

Research, Design and Development is at the core of Dyson. One third of people at Dyson are engineers and scientists. Their expertise in fluid, mechanical, electrical, EMC, thermal, chemical, acoustic and software engineering allows them to design new products as well as challenge and improve existing technologies. Dyson has over 1300 patents and patent applications for over 300 different inventions (March 2010). Dyson’s RDD investment has quadrupled over the last five years and doubled the amount of engineers in 2010.

I always love the Dyson contribute to good design. The videos in this article are clear and gorgeos to understand the working.

Cool presentation - no pun intended! James Dyson is an inventor in the old sense of the word - he is to vacuum cleaning what Graham Bell was to the telephone. But he is also an amazing designer because the things he makes are extremely functional but look smashing - the fan is an object I would love to live with! Even the vacuum cleaners - such dreary things - are really sexy and could easily find their place among other objets d'art in someone's home... I have my eye on a new one coming out in the fall!
