Perfectly familiar with the landscape and cultural character of South Tyrol, the team at Pedevilla Architects really knows how to harmonise its architectural designs with the local environment. After their award-winning guesthouse in Enneberg (which we covered back in 2013), the studio has recently completed an equally stunning house up on the Alpine slopes, in the area of Muehlen in Taufers, Mühlbach. This single-family home boasts a well-drawn silhouette that matches the shapes of the mountains around it, making it look like a small inhabitable mountain itself — an impression that is reinforced by the monolithic appearance of the building, achieved by using uniform materials such as local sands, chalk and white cement. The interior is also of high artisanal quality, where again local materials like hand-planed elm wood, bronze and chalk-based plaster have been used. The real magic however, lies in the way all the windows of the house have been perfectly aligned with the mountaintops all around, masterfully framing the ever-changing but always spectacular Alpine landscape.
