Milan Design Week 2015

With the design marathon finally about to start, get up from your chair, drink up those vitamins and start warming up! In anticipation of tomorrow’s official beginning of Milan Design Week 2015, we can’t think of a better way to pick up the pace than with a good dose of some gymnastics-inspired high-end design. We’re talking of course about the amazing new Body Building project by designer Alberto Biagetti and artist Laura Baldassari - a fun and teasing collection of domestic objects that plays with our obsession with fitness and pumped-up bodies.

The project which will be presented at Atelier Biagetti in Milan from 14-19 April 2015 and curated by the amazing Italian journalist, curator, design expert and former Director of the Bisazza FoundationMaria Cristina Didero includes: a pommel horse shaped seating bench made of silver leather, a chandelier resembling the rings male gymnasts use for their acrobatics, and even a set of hexagonal weights that support a pink-tinted piece of crystal that functions as a coffee table. What makes this project so attractive is not only its high standard of Italian craftsmanship but also the conceptual short-circuiting it creates between functions and aesthetics: as the designers themselves make very clear, ''you must under no circumstances work up a sweat'' on these otherwise precious objects.
