“The visualization, such as drawing, painting, photograph or other work of Art, made to elucidate or decorate textual information (such as a story, a poem, a newspaper article, etc.) by providing a visual representation”, is the definition of illustration.

From 16.10.2009 until 01.11.2009, Berlin is living once again in the beat of Illustrative 2009, a unique art festival for current illustration and graphic art, which returns after two years to its hometown. Exhibitions, events, workshops, art battles and many other surprises are taking place throughout the city, when the main core of the Illustrative 2009 is in the magnificent Schinkelbau-Villa. Illustrators from Canada, US, Japan, South-America and all over Europe as well as Berlin present their art work in the most international exhibition so far.

During the Grand Opening, a day earlier from the official opening of the festival, those who had been invited were able to be the first to get a glimpse into the latest illustration and graphic art and also celebrate in style together with the artists and friends of Illustrative. The Elisabeth Church, next to the Schinkelbau-Villa, offered a spectacular setting for live performances, video screenings and live DJ sets.

The Elisabeth Church was also the place where on Saturday (17.10.2009), Swatch MTV Playground took place and the Berlin-duo, Ben and Julia, competed in a head-to-head live art battle ticking against the clock, putting their artistic skills to the test live on stage.

Illustrative 2009 is continuing in Berlin with many events, exhibitions and parties taking place until the first of November. See you there.
